Hagia Sophia
Istanbul, Türkiye

A monumental basilica built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian I, which served as a church, mosque, and museum.
Ayasofya, or Hagia Sophia, is a monumental architectural landmark of Istanbul, originally a Christian basilica built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian I. Over the centuries, it served as a mosque, then a church again, and then a museum, only to become a mosque once more in 2020. Its gigantic dome and rich interiors with mosaics are a testament to Byzantine and Ottoman power. The building combines elements of Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic architecture.
