A historic necropolis in the Lombard Eclecticism style, with the central Famedio pantheon, it stands out with avenues full of tomb sculptures.

The Monumental Cemetery in Milan, opened in 1866, was designed by Carlo Maciachini. It is an example of Lombard eclecticism, combining various architectural styles. Within its grounds is the Famedio, a central pantheon, where Alessandro Manzoni rests. The avenues of the necropolis are adorned with numerous tomb sculptures, including works by Medardo Rosso, Wildt, and Fontana. The site represents an important example of 19th and 20th-century sepulchral art. A visit allows for an exploration of the richness of artistic forms and the history of Milan.
