It is a secret, kilometer-long corridor, built in 1565 for the Medici, connecting Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti over Ponte Vecchio.

The Vasari Corridor is an extraordinary, over a kilometer-long secret passage, built in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari at the behest of Cosimo I de' Medici. It connects Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti, passing over Ponte Vecchio. The corridor was a private passage for the Medici, allowing them to move safely and discreetly. Inside the corridor, a rich collection of artists' self-portraits was exhibited. Currently, it is rarely open to the public, often requiring a special reservation.
