An impressive bronze fountain located in the square in front of the main entrance gate to Valletta. The work of Maltese sculptor Vincent Apap from 1959 depicts three mythological tritons supporting a massive water basin. Between 2011 and 2015, the square along with the City Gate was rebuilt according to the design of the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano. Modern gates cut into the mighty St. James bastion form a passage between the bus terminal and the representative Republic Street.
