Igreja da Conceição Velha
Lisbon, Portugal

It stands out with its original Manueline facade, saved after the 1755 earthquake, in contrast to its Baroque interior.
Igreja da Conceição Velha is a Baroque church in Lisbon, built after the 1755 earthquake. It was erected on the site of an older church destroyed by the catastrophe. Its facade, an example of Manueline art, comes from the original building and was saved from destruction. The interior of the church is richly decorated with azulejos and gilded altars. It is an important place of worship and an example of the survival of older architecture in a new context.
