Rosslyn Chapel
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The temple in Roslin was founded in 1446 by William St Clair, 3rd Earl of Orkney, as a collegiate church of St Matthew. The building is famous for the richness of its stone carvings covering the walls and vaults of the nave. The famous Apprentice Pillar is adorned with plant motifs and intertwined dragons from Norse mythology. Among the hundreds of bas-reliefs, researchers have identified over a hundred images of the Green Man and stone corn cobs carved before Columbus's voyage.
