Phoenix Park
Dublin, Ireland

One of the largest enclosed municipal parks in Europe, covering an area of 707 hectares west of Dublin city center. Established in 1662 by Viceroy James Butler as a hunting reserve, the park is still home to a free-roaming herd of several hundred fallow deer. Within its grounds stand Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence of the President of Ireland, built in 1751, and the residence of the United States Ambassador. In the center of the park stands the 62-meter-high Wellington Monument obelisk.
