Piazza del Plebiscito is the main square of Naples, covering an area of approximately 25,000 m², located in the historic city center. Its current shape was formed at the beginning of the 19th century, when King Ferdinand I of Bourbon commissioned its reconstruction. The square is surrounded by the neoclassical colonnade of the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola and the facade of the Royal Palace. The Basilica, modeled after the Roman Pantheon, was completed in 1836. The Royal Palace, originally built in the 17th century, was the residence of the Bourbons. The square is an important meeting place and cultural event venue in Naples.
