Barrakka Lift
Valletta, Malta

A modern panoramic elevator, 58 meters high, connects the Grand Harbour waterfront with the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The structure was opened in 2012 on the site of the former steam elevator from 1905. Each of the two glass cabins can accommodate up to 21 passengers, and the ride to the top takes only 25 seconds. During the ride, there is a view of the harbor waters and the stone bastions of the Three Cities. The descent is free, while an uphill ticket costs a symbolic one euro.
