Certosa di San Martino is a former Carthusian monastery from the 14th century, now a national museum in Naples. The building showcases masterpieces of Neapolitan Baroque, including works by Jusepe de Ribera and Battistello Caracciolo. Worth seeing are the marble cloister and the monastery church with frescoes by Lanfranco. The museum also houses a famous collection of nativity scenes, known as presepe napoletano, with over 2000 figures. The complex offers views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. It is an important cultural and art center of the Campania region.
