Greyfriars Bobby Fountain
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The bronze figure on a granite pedestal with a drinking fountain was erected in 1873 thanks to a foundation by Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts. The monument commemorates a Skye Terrier who, according to city chronicles, guarded his owner John Gray's grave in Greyfriars Kirkyard for 14 years. Sculptor William Brodie depicted the dog life-sized. The monument stands at the junction of George IV Bridge and Candlemaker Row. The figure of the dog has become a symbol of loyalty for the city's residents.
