Temple of Portunus
Rome, Italy

Its unusual state of preservation is due to its transformation into the church of Santa Maria Egiziaca in 872 AD.
The Tempio di Portuno is an ancient Roman temple from the 4th or 3rd century BCE, rebuilt in the 1st century BCE, located in the Forum Boarium. It is one of the best-preserved Roman temples, partly due to its transformation into the church of Santa Maria Egiziaca in 872 CE. It features a prostylos tetrastylos portico and a pseudoperipteral cella with Ionic columns. The temple stands by the Tiber, emphasizing its connection to the god of ports.
