Deacon Brodie's Tavern
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The tavern on the corner of Lawnmarket and Bank Street commemorates William Brodie, an 18th-century city councilor and head of the carpenters' guild. By day, Brodie was a respected citizen, but by night, he was a burglar, which led him to the gallows in 1788. His double life inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write the novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The interior of the pub is adorned with a painted ceiling depicting scenes from Brodie's trial. Today, the pub offers classic Scottish dishes and local ale beers.
