Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The fortress stands on the basalt rock of Castle Rock at an elevation of 135 meters above sea level. In the 12th century, King David I erected the Romanesque St. Margaret's Chapel here, the oldest standing building in the Scottish capital. The Scottish Crown Jewels, the Honours of Scotland, and the Stone of Destiny are kept in the castle treasury. Every day at 1:00 PM, the One O'Clock Gun fires from the walls, which since 1861 has served sailors in the bay to regulate their chronometers.
