The Witchery by the Castle
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
The restaurant has been operating since 1979 in the historic Boswell's Court building from 1595, right at the entrance to the castle. The name refers to hundreds of women condemned for witchcraft and burned on the castle hill in the 16th and 17th centuries. The interiors of the Original Room and The Secret Garden are filled with 17th-century oak panels, gilded cordovan leather wallpaper, and tapestries. The menu is based on Scottish game, Aberdeen Angus beef, and oysters. Candles on the tables illuminate the details of the Renaissance wall carpentry.
