An ancient temple complex built on a limestone hill 156 meters above sea level in the center of Athens. The most important building on the hill is the Doric Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena Parthenos, designed by Iktinos and Kallikrates under the direction of the sculptor Phidias in the 5th century BC. The citadel also includes the Propylaea, the small Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion with the Porch of the Caryatids. From the limestone terraces, a panorama extends to the Aegean Sea basin and the port of Piraeus. Entry requires booking a specific time slot.
