Upland Gate
Gdańsk, Poland

Built between 1571 and 1576, making it nearly 40 years older than the Golden Gate.
Brama Wyżynna in Gdańsk is a Renaissance city gate, built between 1571 and 1576 by Willem van den Blocke. It was the main entrance to the city from the west and formed part of the fortifications. The gate is richly decorated with the coats of arms of Poland, Gdańsk, and Royal Prussia, as well as allegorical bas-reliefs. It marks the beginning of the Royal Route and is one of the most impressive monuments in the city. It is an iconic example of Dutch Mannerism. It can be admired for free.
