Katownia
Gdańsk, Poland

As the only one of Gdańsk's towers, it currently houses the Amber Museum.
Katownia is a medieval prison tower in Gdańsk, part of the historic city fortifications, built in the 14th century. Originally, it served as a gate, and then it was a place of torture and arrest. Currently, it houses the Amber Museum, a branch of the Museum of Gdańsk. The building is characterized by brick architecture, forming part of the Brama Wyżynna and Więzienna complex. Reconstructed after war damage, it is now open to visitors. Here you can learn about the history of Gdańsk's judiciary and penitentiary system.
