A modern museum building designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi, opened in 2009 at 15 Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. The building is supported by over 100 concrete pillars above authentic ruins of a Roman-Byzantine residential district visible through the glass floor. The highest museum hall has the exact same dimensions and spatial orientation as the Parthenon, displaying the surviving panels of the Panathenaic frieze in daylight. The lower galleries exhibit original Caryatid sculptures and archaic Kore statues.
